Be proud of your website

Your website is your showcase to the world.  No matter how big or small you are, people will want to check you out online.  Ask yourself honestly, does your website reflect what you want to project to the world?  Does it show your best side?  Do you feel looooaaaads of pride when you give people your website address?

WordPress is the most used content management system on the internet today with over 24% (!) of all websites being built using their framework.  As an open source (meaning free) platform, WordPress has loads of themes and tools that you can use straight away at no additional cost to really make your website amazing.

Some of our customer’s websites…

About Julie Hall

Julie Hall

I have been building websites for 10 years and the last four of those have been building websites exclusively in WordPress.  I am a web designer AND a marketer as well as being the leading WordPress trainer in London, having taught over 300 small business owners how to create their own websites.  I understand not only the technology, but also the reasons why and what makes a great site. My web design company, Springmedia, has built websites for loads of small business owners including BBC Dragon, Julie Meyer, leading UK photographer Julia Boggio and legal expert, Jo Tall from  I launched Women Unlimited using an off the shelf WordPress theme called Revolution in 2008 and never looked back. WordPress gave me the flexibility to grow my business with no web costs to become the leading Women’s business website in the UK.

Here are just a few of the websites that we have built in WordPress

This course Simply WordPress for Small Business Owners is designed for everyone no matter what your level of technical competence.  All I ask is for your time and I will take you by the hand, through the process of creating a website.  Using videos and  Q&A webinars where I will personally be available to answer your burning questions while you learn at your own pace.

Sam McCulloch This is a really practical workshop and delivers everything it promises!  I already had some WordPress experience but it was self-taught so there was a lot of trial and error. This course enabled me to pick up lots of time-saving hints and tips which have been invaluable. Julie is a patient, informative and supportive tutor – I’d highly recommend this course.

christian mclaughlinNot to sound melodramatic, but taking the Build your own website or blog in WordPress course with Women Unlimited was seriously like a weight being lifted off my chest. I’d had experience running WordPress sites before, but invariably ended up wasting hours trying to figure out what became obvious in a matter of minutes on the course. In just one day, Julie managed to give me the tools to now be able to create and manage WordPress sites independently.

Is this course worth taking if I have already started with WordPress?

Yes, absolutely! If you have started with WordPress, but are not finding it intuitive or easy to use – or your site doesn’t look as great as you’d like it to, then this course is definitely for you. You will have access to the WordPress essentials module as soon as you join. Module 2 is all about design – how to choose a theme, how to customise your theme and I go through the process of installing 3 different themes so that you can see how it all works and I also have my call to action video plus talk about design principles and how to apply them.

In the third module I do a step by step through my essential plugins and different types of functionality that are really important on your site.

The course will definitely save you time and short-cut your learning – plus it will make sure you don’t miss any important elements in your settings etc. I will be covering some very general website design and management advice as well.

Should I let go of my existing domain?

Not if you want this to be the domain that you build your website on.  You will need to have your own domain name and your own hosting account – but don’t worry if you don’t have this  right now as there are videos to take you through the process of buying your domain name and hosting in the course.

Do i need my own hosting

You will need to have a domain name and a hosting account that has the ability to host wordpress.  If you do not currently have a domain name and hosting, we will setup your WordPress site for you as long as you use our affiliate link here to purchase your hosting from Hostagator (send us your confirmation email and we will set this up for you).

Can I do this course on a Mac with Safari?

Yes.  WordPress works through your browser and is not computer specific.  You can work on your site on any computer and in any browser.

Are you going to be doing a live workshop again?

No, this course is only available online.

Will the course be available later on in the year?

Yes, we will be running it again.  Though it probably won’t be until October/ November.

I’d like to set up a full community site, will you be covering this?

Unfortunately no.  This is more advanced than what we will be covering in this course but we will consider running an advanced course later in the year if there is a demand on how to set up membership sites and community sites

I’m away for part of the course, is it worth me joining now?

I would say yes, as we have two webinars to answer your questions, but also when you sign up, you will be able to join future webinars when we re-release the course and it will give you a chance to get started straight away.

Do I need to do any pre wordpress course work before joining the course?

No.  There is a before you start section to help you through the planning stages of your WordPress website.  This will really help you structure your thinking before you start building your site.    If you already have content from an existing site, you can literally start straight away.

Wendy Dashwood Quick I now have a fully functioning, totally fantastic Word Press website! I love it, it’s easy to use and have really enjoyed putting it together. I really wanted to take control of my website, because things change sometimes daily and it was important for me to be in front of the curve as far as new developments are concerned. Julie has been absolutely brilliant.

Hi Julie. I am definitely interested in the basic wordpress course but am probably not ready for this January Febuary. I have a website that is hosted through mrsite. I would like to keep my domain name of, but is it possible to work on the new wordpress website whilst still keeping my current one live?

    Many thanks

Hi Alison, yes it is, but there are a couple of options for this … I will email you separately about it

I hope you get this today before the course deadline kicks in, does this course cover creating the WordPress site with the .org platform? Creating and understanding cms?

    Thanks! Rebekah

    Hi Julie,

This course looks really great. I am very interested but just want to check my understanding of how it works…from what I gather as soon as I sign up I immediately get the ‘Before you start’ and ‘Setting up WordPress’ information and also the three modules. I work through these at my own pace but they need to be completed by February 13 at the latest? Over the next month I also have three separate opportunities to ask questions on a live Q&A.

I know generally what I want to do but haven’t even got the domain name set up. I tried to set up a site on WordPress by myself once about two years ago and got into a bit of a state – to say I find the whole idea a bit intimidating is probably an understatement but I am really keen to learn and really want to be able to have control of my own website. Part of me says to wait as I haven’t thought all this through/have content yet but I also think maybe I just need to get on with it! 🙂

    Many thanks,

Hello, I would like to ask if I could take this course even though I reside in Canada?

    • Julie Hall July 16, 2013 at 8:12 pm #

Absolutely Selina! We hope to see you on the course.

  6. Gillian July 16, 2013 at 2:58 pm #

HI Julia – I’ve built several websites using WordPress and the Thesis theme. I need to know how to customise – do you plan any course specific to this ? I am also frustrated by Thesis changing totally the way the theme is managed. What theme do you use on your courses ? I need to change my theme on all my websites so I may as well pick the one you use if you are planning a course on customisation.
    Best, Gillian
